Welcome the year of the Rat. Usher in the New Year with traditional Chinese crafts, foods, music and dance at the Chinese New Year Festival at the Museum in Docklands, from 11.30 am, Sunday 17 February 2008.
The Chinese spend this time visiting families and friends, greeting each other with wishes of good fortune, health and prosperity. The festival embodies all the Chinese traditions and we invite all communities in the borough to join in the festivities.
Throughout the day, there will be family friendly activities including such as the popular Chinese mah-jong games, Chinese water painting & calligraphy. Participants will be treated with a Chinese Variety Show that includes acrobatic act, The best of Sichuan theatre: lion dancing from Se Fu Lee Pak Mei team, song and dance performances from the Chinese Cultural Centre.
The Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets is a charity and has been running the local Chinese New Year Festival for many years. The event aims to benefit the local community and increase opportunities for people with disabilities and older people to take part as everyone else. Last year it successfully attracted a large contingency of families and individuals of more than 1000 people.
